CPTSD

Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or CPTSD, diagnosed as PTSD Chronic Type is trauma that is not just one single incident (PTSD), but a combination of events, experiences where you felt unsafe, disconnected, abused, unsupported, and the memories of those experiences have been encoded in your brain in such a way that they cause you severe emotional dysregulation when you remember the incidents, or you have another event in the present remind you of that incident subconsciously or consciously.

At Mind Play, we treat trauma with a combination of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Internal Family Systems (parts work), and validating, person-centered counseling. We can treat trauma in person or virtually. We also have an adult support group that is free to support clients and others in the community.

Here are the 7 Core CPTSD Healing Steps we do:

  • Emotional Regulation
  • Stress Response and Window of Tolerance
  • Attachment
  • Shame and Guilt
  • Reparenting / Trauma Processing
  • Healing and Integration
  • Relationship Building / Coping for Life
